Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs)

Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs)

Major NCDs

The main types of NCDs are cardiovascular diseases (like heart attacks and stroke), cancers, chronic respiratory diseases (such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and asthma) and diabetes.

Risk Factors

Many NCDs are preventable. Key risk factors include tobacco use, physical inactivity, the harmful use of alcohol, and unhealthy diets. These risk factors can lead to raised blood pressure, overweight/obesity, raised blood glucose, and raised cholesterol.

Prevention and Control

Adopting a healthy lifestyle can significantly reduce your risk. This includes eating a balanced diet rich in fruits and vegetables, engaging in at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity most days of the week, avoiding smoking, and limiting alcohol consumption. Regular health screenings for early detection and management are also essential.
